Detachment Parenting
April 11th, 2007“Now I can just enjoy you”, I told Beth Ann just moments ago. We were discussing the shift from ‘invested in’ to ‘detached from’ that I had experienced some years earlier.
Had I not made the shift, I imagine the way we show up with one another now would be drastically different. Once I let go of expectations and trying to control outcomes, I became a curious observer of her and her sister’s lives and transitioned into a supportive role as opposed to an advisor role. It’s made a huge difference in the energy of our relationship.
And now I get to model this shift for my daughters who can in turn apply this valuable skill to the people in their lives.
Yea.
